The story behind Prince of Thieves: Lat’s Quests was initially a contest between my partner and me. The rules were simple:
The theme of this story: humorous action. The main character: strong heir. The major event of the story: journey.
-Max of 10,000 words
-Starting Monday, July 28th, 2011, 3 am
-Ending Friday, August 1st, 2011, 3 am
-Contestants can not read the other submissions until judging is complete
-No names on entries (Krista Lynn to judge)
Sylvia wins: Azazel cleans the house
Azazel wins: Good full-body massage
Contest Fail
As generally happens when two people with mental health issues meet, the contest never came to a conclusion, but I did have the base story to Lat’s Quests, which sat on my hard drive gathering dust with all my other story ideas.
Under the Wire
Enter Full Sail University and its Creative Writing program. So, there I am. First-time mother of a two-year-old, working full time at Central Valley Veterinary hospital, where I sometimes worked long, hard hours, and in a Bachelor’s degree program, trying to do homework at 3 am, quietly enough that I didn’t wake my daughter. The assignment that morning was to publish the previous assignment’s book that I hadn’t written yet. Panic kicked in, so I rummaged through my old stories and found Lat’s Quests again. Lat eagerly stepped up and helped me flesh out the story enough that I could publish.
Cover
Despite his own projects, Azazel stepped up and designed me an awesome cover:

With that, I was a published author, and I passed my class! I’ve sold more of this book than all of the others combined. It is an easy read and a fun journey with interesting characters, so get yourself a copy at the July Smashwords sale and get it for free!!
Either way, happy reading! Tell me what you think of it.
