Next Project Chosen

Well the overwhelming answer of crickets forced me to make my own decision, so I’m going with the pirate, Buck, to lead my next project. It was a screenplay for school that did not get a good grade due to the accent of one of the characters leading to confusion and ‘forcing the actor’ into a character rather than letting them play it naturally. The biggest problem I have faced in adapting it to book form is describing the scope of the landscape.

Most of this story takes place in a city that was blocked from outsiders for centuries before finding a way to bring commerce to their isolated mountain top. They went from no visitors, to hosting any ocean worthy boat, which at that time included most of the known world, and quickly became rich enough to entice kingly notice and pirates.

The rest of the story takes place on the open ocean, a place I’ve never been. Utah boasts High mountains, deep snows, iconic red deserts and beautiful rock formations but the closest we get to ‘ocean’ is the remains of the inland ocean Lake Bonneville, which gave us the vast salt flats and the Great Salt Lake, that stinks of brine shrimp most of the time.

Next Steps

As for this project, the good news is the story is finished. The bad news is that I’ve been editing this story on and off since I graduated from school so who knows how many mistakes my brain will gloss over since I know what it’s supposed to say. Sigh. Someday I really need an editor, but I’ll need fans first. How weird is that?

As far as the next steps of my life, well. I think I’ve finally hit rock bottom and am hoping the only way from here is back up. I’d like some solid ground to build on, but these new meds have completely killed my anxiety and left me to my depression. At least when I’m anxious I can get things done. With depression I’m totally down with just laying down and dying. I mean, what’s the point? I’ve been a published author since Tiren in 2003 and have made about 20$ so far. Wow. Don’t quit the day job. I’ve been applying for jobs for three years and can’t get a bite, not even a callback, just a canned letter saying they’ve moved on with other candidates.

Argiddy Blargh!
